ST. GEORGE, Utah - Graduate Christeina Bryan grabbed a new career high in points scored but the effort could not push the Seattle U women's basketball team into the win column as the Redhawks fell 80-70 to Utah Tech at Burns Arena on Thursday night.
Bryan ended the night with 23 points, narrowly missing her career best with seven made field goals, while posting a career high nine makes from the free throw line. She shot 63.6 percent from the floor, picked up a block and corralled five rebounds.
One bucket short of her tying her career best was redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin. Stricklin followed Bryan with 19 points and paced the team with eight rebounds. She also recorded a block and went 3-of-4 from three point land while shooting 53.8 percent from the floor.
Freshman Sydnie Rodriguez grabbed a career best seven rebounds while tying her season high in makes from behind the arc with two. She ended the night with eight points. Graduate Taisiya Kozlova also hauled in seven rebounds.
Three separate Redhawks recorded three assists on the night. Redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett handed out three while scoring eight points. Rodriguez and Kozlova also dished out three assists.
The Redhawks combined for 40 percent shooting from the field, eight threes, 37 rebounds and 11 steals. They scored 22 points in the paint to Utah Tech's 28 and scored 11 points off Trailblazer turnovers.
After trailing by 15 in the first quarter, the Redhawks muscled back to pull within seven before the end of the first ten minutes. They turned around and outscored the Trailblazers in the second quarter 19-18 to trail by six, 45-39, at the half. Seattle U stuck with Utah Tech in the third with each scoring 15 before the Trailblazers put the game away 80-70 in the closing minutes.
The Redhawks travel up to Southern Utah for a Saturday afternoon game at the America First Event Center with a 1 p.m. PT tip.
