SEATTLE - A weekend in southern Utah lies in store for the Seattle U women's basketball team as the Redhawks kick off the trip at Utah Tech for a Thursday night clash with the Trailblazers at Burns Arena.
Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe ranks 12th in the WAC in scoring, averaging a team leading 11.2 points a game. She's shooting 54.9 percent from the field, averaging 4.1 makes a game and is the only freshman ranked in the WAC's top-20 in scoring. The freshman guard has led the Redhawks scoring effort five times this season, while currently holding a four game double-digit scoring streak.
Edokpaigbe frequents the free throw line, getting to the stripe tied-fifth most in the conference this season. She's made 42 free throws in 15 appearances, averaging 2.8 makes a game from the free throw line. Edokpaigbe leads the team in steals with 1.7 a game, which ranks 14th in the WAC.
Three Redhawks rank top-20 in the league in rebounds, with senior Sophie Benharouga leading the team with 5.3 in nine appearances. Graduate Christeina Bryan ranks 17th, averaging 5.2 rebounds a game appearing in all 15 contests thus far. Redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin rounds out the group with 4.7 rebounds a game in 14 appearances.
Bryan and Benharouga help extend the Redhawk offense, with Bryan averaging 8.1 points a game to Benharouga's 8.8 points a game. Bryan is shooting 46.2 from the floor this season, averaging 3.3 made field goals a game. Benharouga is hitting similar, netting 4 made field goals a game, shooting 45 percent from the floor.
Graduate Taisiya Kozlova ranks 12th in the conference in made three pointers, averaging 1.4 a game for 18 total makes in 13 appearances. Stricklin follows with 15 makes from behind the arc this year, shooting 30.6 percent from deep. She's averaging 8.4 points a game off 38 percent shooting from the floor.
Redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett ranks ninth in the WAC in assists per game, handing out 3.1 a game. She has 12 triples on the year, averaging 5.4 points a game.
The Redhawks meet the Trailblazers for the seventh time in program history. Utah Tech holds the series edge 4-2 after taking the last three contests. Seattle U last won in the 2022-23 season, downing the Trailblazers in St. George 70-66. Since their first contest in 2022, the Redhawks are 1-2 in St. George.
Both programs are going for their first conference win of the year. The Trailblazers are 3-4 at home this year, while the Redhawks are 1-7 on the road.
Following Thursday night's game, the Redhawks head over to Cedar City for a meeting with Southern Utah on Saturday afternoon.
