ABILENE, Texas - Pursuing its first conference win of the season, the Seattle U women's basketball team (3-12, 0-2 WAC) faced off against an Abilene Christian team (12-5, 1-1 WAC) that was also eager to avenge its conference opening loss. Holding the series home court advantage over Seattle U, the Wildcats stifled the Redhawks 83-55 at Moody Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

ABILENE, Texas - Pursuing its first conference win of the season, the Seattle U women's basketball team (3-12, 0-2 WAC) faced off against an Abilene Christian team (12-5, 1-1 WAC) that was also eager to avenge its conference opening loss. Holding the series home court advantage over Seattle U, the Wildcats stifled the Redhawks 83-55 at Moody Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
 
Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe extended her double-digit scoring streak to four games after leading the Redhawks with 15 points on the afternoon. The guard went 6-of-9 from the field and shot perfect from the charity stripe. She added along two steals, a block and three rebounds including two offensive boards.
 
The Redhawks shot perfect from the free throw line, with Edokpaigbe leading with three made free throws. Graduate Christeina Bryan knocked down one for a three point play. She ended the day with seven points and a team leading eight rebounds.
 
Freshman Lucy Larson posted a season best five point, shooting 2-of-2 from the free throw line. She corralled five rebounds while hitting a triple in 23 minutes of action for a new season high. 
 
Senior Julianna Walker and graduate Taisiya Kozlova combined for four makes from behind the arc. Walker ended with eight points and a block, while Kozlova also picked up a block and four rebounds. The graduate hit 50 percent from three point land in 11 minutes of action.
 
Senior Sophie Benharouga added seven points in her second start this year, shooting 50 percent from the floor. She picked up five rebounds while going 1-of-1 from beyond the arc.
 
Seattle U hit a combined 39.6 percent from the floor and nine threes. The Redhawks went 6-of-6 from the free throw line while collecting 33 rebounds and seven steals. Seattle U's bench production outgained Abilene Christian's 28 to 13. The Redhawks also scored 13 off second chance points to the Wildcats' 14. 
 
The Wildcats wrestled to the lead early in the contest, going up by as many as 14 in the first ten minutes. The Redhawks chipped at the lead, holding the Wildcats scoreless through the final two minutes of the first quarter, cutting ACU's lead to nine off a score from Walker. 
 
Walker struck again in the first minute of the second quarter to cut the lead to eight, hitting her second three of the day. ACU shutdown the Redhawks through a two minute stretch before Benharouga broke through, scoring five within a minute and half. After leading by as many as 17, a pair of free throws from Larson put the Redhawks down 15 at the half.
 
Edokpaigbe came out hot in the third quarter, scoring eight of her 15. She was aided with back-to-back triples from Kozlova, but the Wildcats also came out in a flurry of scoring in the third quarter, out scoring the Redhawks 21-18 in third. ACU kept the Redhawks out of rhythm through the closing minutes of the contest, securing its home court advantage over Seattle U with a 83-55 win over the Redhawks.
 
Seattle U returns to action next week on the road, traveling to Utah for bouts with Utah Tech and Southern Utah. The Redhawks return home on January 23 to host UT Arlington.
