SEATTLE - Hitting the road for the first time in conference play, Seattle U women's basketball (3-11, 0-1 WAC) journeys to Abilene Christian (11-5, 0-1 WAC) for a 11 a.m. PT meeting with the Wildcats at Moody Coliseum. The Redhawks go for both their first conference win of the season and their first ever win in Abilene.
Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe paces the team and ranks 15th in the WAC with 11.0 points per game. In the last three contests, she's scored in double-digits, tallying eight efforts in total this year. Edokpaigbe posts 4.0 made field goals a game, averaging a 53.8 percent clip from the floor. She's also leading from the free throw line, hitting 39 free throws this season, averaging 4.5 attempts a game. Her 61.9 percent shooting from the stripe ranks fourth in the WAC.
Four Redhawks rank as top-20 rebounders in the WAC, with senior Sophie Benharouga ranking 14th with 5.4 rebounds a game. Edokpaigbe leads all Redhawks in the group with 33 total offensive boards and averages a total of 4.8 rebounds a game in all 14 games. Her 2.4 offensive rebounds a game ranks seventh in the WAC. Graduate Christeina Bryan and redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin tie with 5.0 rebounds a game.
Both Bryan and Edokpaigbe rank in the top-15 in the conference in steals, with the freshman grabbing 1.6 a game to Bryan's 1.5 steals a game. Graduate Taisiya Kozlova is tied-11th in the WAC in made threes, hitting 16 in 12 appearances this season. Redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett remains in the top-15 in the league in assists, handing out 2.8 a game.
Following Edokpaigbe in scoring is Benharouga. She's averaging 9.0 points a game in eight appearances, shooting 44.6 percent from the floor for 4.1 made field goals a game. Stricklin follows suit with 8.8 points a game averaging 1.2 triples a game shooting 32.6 percent. Her 15 made threes on the year is second on the team.
The Redhawks and Wildcats meet for the fifth time in program history on Saturday afternoon. Since the series began in the 2021-22 season, the two have split wins 2-2. Both teams are perfect on their respective home floors. The Redhawks look for their first conference win of the season while also going for their first ever win in Abilene.
Seattle U remains on the road heading into next weekend, making stops to both Utah Tech and Southern Utah. The Redhawks return to the Redhawk Center on January 23 when they host UT Arlington.
