ARLINGTON, Texas - Graduate Taisiya Kozlova was named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Newcomer of the Week following a big Thanksgiving weekend as announced by the league this afternoon.
Kozlova returned to the floor for the first time in nearly two weeks and helped deliver the Redhawks their first program win over East Texas A&M. She recorded 14 points coming off the bench, shooting 40 percent from three while bringing in six rebounds and two steals en route to the 79-76 victory on Friday afternoon.
She followed up the effort pacing the team with 16 points against UC Santa Barbara for a new career high. Her six made field goals was also a new career best for the graduate, and she hit four more triples, which tied her career best. Kozlova posted her first career double-double adding a career high 10 rebounds, including three offensive boards.
The graduate, in her first season in the WAC, recorded 15 points, 8 rebounds and 1.5 throughs through both games over Thanksgiving weekend. Her combined eight triples came off a two game average of 50 percent from behind the arc. Kozlova ended the weekend shooting 47.8 percent from the field.
Kozlova currently ranks 15th in the WAC in scoring, averaging 10.8 points per game in five appearances. Her 2.2 made threes a game ranks fourth in the league.
