SEATTLE - Seattle U women's basketball saw two Redhawks score in double digits in its eventual season opening 95-53 defeat to Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena on Monday night.
Seven Redhawks found their way into the scoring column over the course of opening night. Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe led the Redhawks with 11 points, hitting four of six shots from the field and a perfect two for two from the charity stripe. She also added a steal in 32 minutes of action.
Redshirt sophomore Olivia Moore added ten points coming off the bench, shooting 40 percent from the floor. She got Seattle U's first three to fall and ended the night with an assist, a steal and a rebound to go along with five made free throws in 25 minutes of action.
Freshman Sydnie Rodriguez and graduate Taisiya Kozlova combined for 18 points, with Kozlova adding a block and a team leading three steals. Rodriguez shot 42.9 percent from the floor and pocketed two of her own steals.
Redshirt sophomore Sheridan Ligget led the team with two assists, scoring eight points while shooting 44.4 percent from the floor coming off the bench for the Redhawks.
Despite a cool start to its offense, Seattle U would go on to out score Washington 21-18 through the final 10 minutes of action, which included a 7-0 scoring run spanning two minutes. The Redhawks found flare in its defense, forcing Washington turnovers. They grabbed eight steals on the night, scoring 13 points off turnovers.
Seattle U remains out on the road, traveling to Sam Houston for a Saturday night game at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum. The Redhawks debut at home on November 16 against Portland State.
