LAS VEGAS – Seattle University men's basketball could not overcome a cold shooting night, falling 61-56 to Furman University in the second game of the Terry's Chocolate Vegas Showdown Tuesday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The Redhawks (2-4) hauled in 22 offensive rebounds for 25 second-chance points, but managed just 16-of-61 from the field and 5-of-27 from three on the night. The Paladins shot 53% from the field as they stayed perfect on the season at 7-0.
Despite the offensive struggles, Seattle U made it a two-point game, 53-51, on a Brayden Maldonado corner three with 4:30 to play. The triple capped an 11-2 Redhawk run after Furman had opened up an 11-point lead, their largest of the night.
But the brief surge would not last as the Redhawks went without a field goal for the remainder of the game.
Maldonado was an offensive bright spot, finishing with 15 points, including three threes, to go with four assists and three rebounds. Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe earned his fourth double-double of the year, collecting 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The Paladins were paced by Cooper Bowser's 17-point, 12-rebound effort. Nick Anderson added 12 points and Eddrin Bronson had 10.
Seattle U remains on the road this week, making its first-ever trip to Durham, N.C. for a Friday night meeting with Duke. Tip off from Cameron Indoor Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET, 4 p.m. Pacific.
