Penalties Knock Redhawks Out of NCAA Tournament

SEATTLE - Seattle U men's soccer was knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Washington on penalties, 0-3, Thursday night in Seattle. After the two sides couldn't find a goal in regulation or during either half of a golden goal overtime, the Redhawks were turned away on all three penalty attempts as their season came to an end.

SEATTLE - Seattle U men's soccer was knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Washington on penalties, 0-3, Thursday night in Seattle. After the two sides couldn't find a goal in regulation or during either half of a golden goal overtime, the Redhawks were turned away on all three penalty attempts as their season came to an end. 

The Redhawks controlled most of the play during regulation, out shooting the Huskies 13-7 through 90 minutes. Edgar Leon and Luke Hammond both led the team with three shots. 

Overtime saw both sides create opportunities, but both keepers kept all shots in front of them. Charlie Lanphier made three saves on the night to force the match into penalties after 110 minutes of play. 

Washington would go first and score on three of four attempts, with Lanphier saving their second attempt. Seattle U would have all three attempts saved by the Huskies as the 2024 campaign came to an end. 

Seattle U finishes with a 12-4-4 record. reaching 10+ wins in three of their last four seasons. They also made program history by appearing in back-to-back NCAA tournaments for the first time in their modern Division I history. 

Their sixth Western Athletic Conference title is also the most in conference history, as they will end their run in the WAC as the winningest program in its history.
