SEATTLE - The Seattle University Redhawks finished out their fall seasons, with the men competing at the Gonzaga Invitational and the women at ITA Conference Masters. Natalia Michta and Liliya Dimova represented the Redhawks at ITA Masters, which took place in Rome, Georgia.
Michta and Dimova competed in doubles at ITA Masters, the first Redhawks ever to qualify for that tournament. Their run came to an early end as they were forced to withdraw due to injury.
On the men's side, it was the doubles pair of Yuan Lu and Yu-Han Hsieh that advanced the farthest, making the east finals in the red doubles draw. Lu and Hsieh won twice before falling 8-1 in the final to Idaho's Chetanna Amadike and Noe De Col. Before that, Lu and Hsieh beat a mixed Portland State-Whitworth pair 6-2, then defeated Gonzaga's Oscar Rashed and Tom Dunlop 7-6 (7-4) in the semifinals.
Filip Stipic and Jun Sasagawa also earned two doubles wins, coming in the white consolation bracket after dropping their first match. Stipic and Sasagawa won the white consolation final, winning 6-2 in the first round, earning a bye in the semis, and then putting up a strong 8-1 victory in the final.
Sasagawa had two wins in the white singles west draw as well. First, he earned a 7-5, 5-7 (10-6) win over Eastern Washington's Caden Kammerer. In the semifinals of that bracket, Sasagawa won 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 over Washington's Nikola Plavsic. In the finals against Washington's Rohan Belday, Sasagawa would fall 2-6, 3-6.
This weekend concludes the fall seasons for both the men's and women's teams, who will return to action in spring.
