SEATTLE - Seattle U women's basketball kicks off its regular season with cross town foe Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena on Monday night at 6 p.m.
The Redhawks don a new look this season, with nine new faces to accompany two returners from last year's squad. Of the 11, four hail from the state of Washington, while five have international ties.
Redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin makes her return home after spending three years at Fresno State. She saw action in 49 games, scoring 187 points while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and corralling 132 rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore Olivia Moore also returns to her home state of Washington after spending two years at Long Beach State. The Spokane native debuted this past season and appeared in 30 games, ending the year with 47 points, 24 rebounds and shooting 34.3 percent from three.
Returning in her senior year is Julianna Walker, a native of Tacoma. She played in 17 games a season ago, garnering the start in 10 while netting 141 points and leading the team in three point shooting percentage (41.1 percent). Another local fresh on the scene is freshman Lucy Larson. Larson joins the Redhawks by way of West Seattle HS after graduating over the summer.
Freshmen Nicole Benini and Candy Edokpaigbe both made the journey to Seattle from Italy over the summer as two of the five born and raised overseas. Transfer graduates Taisiya Kozlova and Christeina Bryan, alongside senior transfer Sophie Benharouga round out the group, encompassing three different countries.
Kozlova, a native of Moscow, Russia, joined after splitting four years between Maryland and Dayton. She's appeared in 91 games, while earning the start 18 times at Dayton and has scored 261 points. In her first season with the Flyers, she went for 149 points in a season while grabbing 81 rebounds.
Bryan hails from Yallahs, St. Thomas, Jamaica. The graduate spent her first two seasons at Arizona Western before transferring to Georgia State. She shot 48.8 from the field in two seasons with the Panthers, hauling in 142 rebounds and scoring 203 points.
Benharouga got her start at Harford before transferring to Morehead State and North Texas, each for a season. The Grenoble, France native has 319 points in her career spanning two competitive seasons, shooting 45.6 percent from the field and grabbing 175 rebounds.
Seattle U's final freshman, Sydnie Rodriguez, joins after graduating from Owhyee High School in Boise. Rodriguez was a three time All-SIC First Team member and four time varsity letter winner.
Returning for her first year after redshirting last season is redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett. Liggett appeared in 30 games as a freshman in 2022-23, starting in four games. She scored 95 points, grabbed 15 steals and 22 assists.
Washington and Seattle U have a lengthy history, intertwined and united by the sharing of their Seattle home. Since 1977, the two schools have met 24 times and have met every year since the Redhawks returned to DI in 2012, outside of the shortened 2020 season. The Huskies lead the all-time series 21-3.
A new look Redhawk team prepares for a new season in 2024-25, starting on the road for two games. Monday night's game will air live starting at 6 p.m. on Big Ten+.
