SEATTLE - The Seattle University Redhawks started off the fall season at the Husky Invitational, taking part in three days of matches. Lamija Avdic won both of her singles matches, while Daria Nazarenko earned wins in both doubles and singles. The wins moved Avdic's overall singles record as a Redhawk to 18-6, including a perfect 3-0 mark competing as Seattle University's #1.
Avdic, Nazarenko, and Lola Tavcar all had singles wins for the Redhawks. Avdic won both her matches; 6-2, 7-6 and 7-6, 6-4, for a strong start to the year after becoming the first Redhawk ever to compete in the ITA All-American Championships in September. Nazarenko went 1-1 in singles play, earning a 6-4, 6-4 win. Tavcar won her only singles match of the day, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, Nazarenko picked up another win in her debut for the Redhawks, pairing with Liliya Dimova for a 6-4 win over host Washington's Carina Syrtveit and Catherine Gagnon.
The Redhawks will hit the road next to take part in the ITA Northwest Regionals. That five-day tournament will be held in Berkeley, California beginning October 11.
