SEATTLE - The Seattle U women's basketball team locked up its lone home exhibition game with a 63-55 win over Saint Martin's at the Redhawk Center on Monday evening.
Two Redhawks recorded double digit scoring efforts as redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds, while shooting 50 percent from the floor. Graduate Taisiya Kozlova followed with 14 points and six rebounds, also shooting 50 percent on the floor while knocking back three shots from three point land. Redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett was the third Redhawk to shoot 50 percent on the night, as she posted six points to go with four rebounds, four assists and a steal.
As a unit, seven Redhawks found their way to the scoring column. Redshirt sophomore Olivia Moore was a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe, ending the game with nine points and four assists to go with three rebounds. Graduate Christeina Bryan added another eight points, going four of seven from the floor, while grabbing seven rebounds and two steals.
As a team, the Redhawks shot 46 percent from the field, holding the Saints to 32.3 percent shooting from the floor. Seattle U also locked in 38 rebounds while pocketing six steals. The Redhawks never relinquished its lead over Saint Martin's and led by as many as 15 over the course of the night. Together, the Redhawks knocked back seven threes, while scoring 26 points in the paint.
The Redhawks out scored the Saints by seven through the opening ten minutes of action after starting out off the night shooting 53.8 percent. Despite Saint Martin's tying the score in the second, the Redhawks secured the lead heading into the half from the free throw line.
Coming out of the break, the Redhawks would out score the Saints 36-29 in the second half to solidify the win, bolstered by a revving offense in the third quarter. Heading in the final stretch, the Redhawks got to the line six more times and went nearly perfect to close out the night.
Seattle U opens its season on the road at nearby Washington for a 6:00 PM tip on November 4. Streaming will air live on Big Ten+. The Redhawks remain on the road until they host Evergreen State on November 16 at the Redhawk Center.
