Avdic, Dimova Qualify For ITA Masters

The Seattle University Redhawks reached the finals in doubles at both the WAC Fall Invitational and Gonzaga Invitational.

ABILENE, Texas - Lamija Avdic and Liliya Dimova clinched a spot in ITA Masters with a tournament win in doubles at the WAC Fall Invitational. It was a successful weekend for the Redhawks, who also saw Natalia Michta and Lola Tavcar reach the finals in doubles at the Gonzaga Invitational.

Avdic and Dimova defeated Utah Tech's Mariana Zurita and Ana Gutierrez Sampere 6-3 in the first round of doubles, then won 6-2, 4-6 (10-6) over UT Arlington's Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Ana Paula Jimenez. In the finals, the Redhawks duo beat Grand Canyon's Gala Arangio and Dania Deaifi 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) to win the tournament and earn an ITA Masters bid, which will take place in Georgia beginning November 7.

Avdic and Dimova are the first Redhawks to qualify for ITA Masters.

At Gonzaga, Michta and Tavcar beat Utah State's Olivia Halvorsen and Magdalena Nunez Pureco 7-5, then won 6-3 over Portland State's Nika Beukers and Nene Uemura to reach the finals. Once there, Michta and Tavcar would fall 2-6 to Gonzaga's Emily Robertson and Safien Boulonois.

In singles play, Avdic beat Grand Canyon's Gala Arangio 6-3, 6-2 before falling to Tarleton's Noelia Lorca 0-6, 5-7. At Gonzaga, Daria Nazarenko, Larissa Teramura, Mina Yazadhziev, Tavcar, and Michta all competed in singles but fell in the first round.

On the men's side, Filip Stipic and Jun Sasagawa each lost in the first round of singles play at the WAC Fall Invitational. That duo fell 3-6, 4-6 to Grand Canyon's Brice Patoux and David Wekesa in doubles.

The women will have one more tournament this fall, heading to Eugene, Oregon for the Duck Invitational, beginning November 1. Avdic and Dimova will also have ITA Masters on November 7. The men will compete at the George Fox Tournament on November 2 and 3 in Newberg, Oregon, then finish the fall season at the Gonzaga Invitational, beginning November 8.
