SEATTLE - The Seattle University Redhawks will take part in two overlapping tournaments this week. The Redhawks will compete in both the WAC Fall Invitational, running October 25-27, and the Gonzaga Invitational, also running October 25-27. The WAC Fall Invitational will be in Abilene, Texas, while the Gonzaga Invitational will take place in Spokane, Washington.
Lamija Avdic and Liliya Dimova will be representing the Redhawks at the WAC Fall Invitational, alongside men's players Filip Stipic and Jun Sasagawa. The rest of the women's team will be competing in Spokane at the Gonzaga Invitational.
At the WAC Fall Invitational, Stipic will be the #3 seed and Sasagawa the #7 seed. On the women's side, Avdic is the #1 seed and Dimova the #9 seed. Both pairs will be the #3 seeds in doubles. The first round of both the men's and women's tournaments begins at 7:00 am PT.
These two tournaments will be Seattle University's first action since ITA Northwest Regionals and third competition of the fall. Last time out, Avdic reached the round of 16 in ITA Northwest Regionals, becoming the first Redhawk ever to advance that far in singles play. Avdic enters this weekend 4-1 on the season in singles play. Avdic and Daria Nazarenko also advanced to the round of 32 in doubles play.
On the men's side, Stipic and Sasagawa each played in ITA Northwest Regionals. Stipic reached the round of 64 in singles.
The women will have just one more tournament in the fall season after the conclusion of these two. Seattle University will compete at the three-day Duck Invitational, beginning November 1 in Eugene, Oregon.
The men's team will have two fall tournaments remaining. First will be the George Fox Tournament, on November 2 and 3 in Newberg, Oregon. Finishing off the fall season will be the men's Gonzaga Invitational, set for November 8-10.
