ARLINGTON, Texas - After setting a new school record, Azalea Groleau has been named the Cross Country Athlete of the Week by the Western Athletic Conference. This is Groleau's first WAC Athlete of the Week award in her career.
Groleau shaved almost three full seconds of the Seattle University women's 6k record last week, running a 20:44.4 at the Bronco Invitational. Groleau broke her own record of 20:47 and now owns three of Seattle University's top ten times in the 6k, including both first and second.
This is the first weekly award for the Redhawks this year. The last Redhawk to earn the WAC Athlete of the Week was Yonas Sauers, who did so last year after winning the George Oja Invitational.
Groleau and the Redhawks are off to the WAC Championship next, set for November 1 in Orem, Utah. Groleau was Seattle University's top finisher at the WAC Championship last season, finishing 16th.
