SEATTLE - The fall season has begun for the Seattle University Redhawks, who will compete at the Husky Invitational to start the year. This tournament will begin Friday, October 4, and go three days. October 4 and 6 will take place at the University of Washington's campus, while October 5's competition will be at the Seattle Tennis Club.
Singles play will begin at 9:00 am each day, with doubles starting at noon. Seattle University will compete in the afternoon singles matches on October 4, beginning at 1:00 pm. Redhawks will take part in both the 9:00 am and 1:00 pm singles matches on October 5 and 6 and will take part in all three doubles matches, starting at 12:00 pm each day.
The Redhawks return four athletes who made appearances in competitions last season. Lamija Avdic, Liliya Dimova, Jade Quintana, and Lola Tavcar are all back, with that group having combined to win 30 singles matches in the 2023-24 season. Avdic and Tavcar were also Seattle University's most-used doubles pairing, going 12-4 overall in doubles. Quintana also made two doubles appearances with Avdic, going 1-1 in that pairing.
Avdic will begin the year fresh off the ITA All-American Championships, where she became the first Redhawk ever to qualify. She was the WAC Freshman of the Year last season after going a perfect 7-0 in WAC singles play.
The Redhawks welcome two transfers to the roster, Larissa Teramura and Daria Nazarenko. Teramura joins Seattle University after two years at UC Irvine. While there, Teramura earned wins as UC Irvine's #2 and #3 while earning Big West All-Academic honors both years. Nazarenko spent won year at Fresno State before joining the Redhawks, winning her first two singles matches.
Natalia Michta, Mina Yazadzhiev, and Kimi Yokoyama will all be looking to make their first appearances as Redhawks this year as well.
