ARLINGTON, TX - Seattle U women's soccer defender, Kait Raffensperger, has been named the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.
"Kait has not just had an incredible year for us thus far but an incredible career," said head coach Julie Woodward of her captain. "What is special about her is not just her talent, but her character and her leadership. She has done a tremendous job leading this program. I think she would be considered as one of the best center backs in the country."
The conference's preseason Defensive Player of the Week continued her stellar play last weekend, helping the Redhawks secure their fourth shutout of the season when they defeated Tarleton State, 1-0, on Saturday. She has not missed a single minute of action this season, as Seattle U has allowed the second fewest goals in the conference.
Raffensperger joins Kassidy Kirgan (9/3 - Goalkeeper) and Caroline Penner (9/10 - Offensive) as Redhawks selected to the conference's weekly honor. This is also the 3rd Defensive Player of the Week selection for Raffensperger in her career.
The Redhawks will return to action this Thursday, Oct. 17, when they host Grand Canyon at Championship Field. This will be a rematch of last season's conference championship game, with kickoff scheduled for 7pm PT.
