Redhawks Win Hard Fought Battle

SEATTLE - In a match that saw a combined 23 fouls and eight bookings, Seattle U men's soccer came out on top over Utah Tech, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Championship Field. The Redhawks picked up their lone goal in the 3rd minute as the defense carried them to the finish line to keep their unbeaten conference streak alive.

The Redhawks picked up their lone goal in the 3rd minute as the defense carried them to the finish line to keep their unbeaten conference streak alive. 

Taketo Onodera was on the end of the only goal on the day, converting a PK that was earned by Edgar Leon. Onodera is now 3-for-3 this season from the penalty spot and has four goals total on the year.

Despite the final scoreline, the Redhawks did put a flurry of shot on goal in the final 87 minutes of the match. They outshot the Trailblazers 23-11 and 12-4 on goal. Charlie Lanphier made all four saves on his net, matching his second highest save total of the season. He also earned his second shutout of the year and 16th career win.

The win moves the Redhawks to 6-3-3 on the season and to 3-1-1 in conference play. Seattle U last lost a conference game on Nov. 4, 2022, when they dropped a regular season finale at San Jose State. They will look to continue their dominance over thew WAC when they head on a 2-game road trip next week, starting with a visit to San Diego State on Thursday, Oct. 17.
