ARLINGTON, Texas - Senior Katlyn Sipes secured Seattle University volleyball's first player of the week honor for the 2024 season after she was crowned Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference Libero of the Week by the league this afternoon.
Sipes paced the team in digs in Seattle's split decision weekend on the road against Tarleton State and Abilene Christian. She opened the week grabbing a new career high 29 digs against Tarleton State in the Redhawks' first program win over the Texans. Sipes followed up the effort by picking up her 11th double digit dig performance at Abilene Christian, adding 15 digs in the five set defeat to the Wildcats.
On the week, Sipes averaged 4.88 digs per set while recording two aces in Stephensville. She ended the weekend with four assists.
It's the programs first WAC Player of the Week honor since Eve Kerschenbaum secured offensive player of the week on Sept. 2, 2019 and the first-ever WAC Libero of the Week honor for both Sipes and the team since the league implemented the award in 2023. Sipes is the 11th Seattle U player to be recognized in the conference's weekly awards since the team became a member of the WAC in 2012.
Sipes and the Redhawks head to Arlington where they face current conference leader UT Arlington on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. PT at College Park Center.
