ABILENE, TX - Seattle U women's soccer opened Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play with a dominant win over Abilene Christian, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in Texas. The Redhawks scored the first three goals on the night, including a first collegiate brace from Alana Lamb.

"I was very happy with the way we started conference play," said head coach Julie Woodward. "The team seemed to be in control the majority of the game, they looked sharp and moved the ball quickly playing some very good soccer."

The team's leading scorer got the party started in the 27th, as Caroline Penner broke away off a pass from U'i Kaaihue for her 8th goal of the season. She has already matched her goal total from last season and moves back into a tie for the conference high in 2024.

After the Redhawks took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, it became the Lamb show in the second half. She netted her first collegiate goal in the 54th minute when Hallie Bergford set her up for a shot just inside the box.

Lamb would strike again in the 72nd when she cleaned up a bouncing ball in the box and fired it by the Wildcat keeper. Lamb became the ninth different Redhawk to score a goal this season, and shot herself into third on the team for points this season (5).

"Alana really got involved in our attack and scored two really nice goals," Woodward added. "It was great to see players like U'i, Kyla (Schuster) and (Katie) Piburn play so well and with so much energy today."

The Wildcats would score in the final minute of the match to deny the Redhawks a shutout, but the result stayed the same as Seattle U picked up their first conference win of the season.
