PORTLAND - Off of an 88th minute equalizer from Zoe Hopkins, Seattle U women's soccer was able to snag a draw with Portland, 1-1, Thursday night in the Rose City. The Redhawks trailed for over 70 minutes on the night, but the late goal extended the early season unbeaten streak.
"Every single player that played today made an impact," said head coach Julie Woodward post game. "Portland is such a tough place to play and a very disciplined team so I was incredibly impressed with our dominant 2nd half.".
For Hopkins, a freshman from Lake Stevens, it was her first collegiate goal and couldn't have come at a better time. The Redhawks put up a flurry of shots in the second half, but it took until the final two minutes of the match for them to finally net one.
"Zoe has been such a solid contributor to the team this year, but today was hands down a lights out game for her," Woodward added of her standout freshman.
In contrast, after being out shot in the first half 2-6, the Redhawk backline held the Pilots to zero shots in the second while putting up 11 of their own in attack.
"To have 11 shots on goal and giving up none in the second half is a huge credit to the team," Woodward added. "The depth, persistence and resiliency of this team continues to be our strength."
MATCH TIMELINE:
Seattle U will be back in action next week when they travel to Idaho State on Thursday, Sep. 19. Kickoff between the Redhawks and Bengals is set for 6pm PT.
