LAS VEGAS - Seattle U women's soccer kicked up their first road win of the 2024 season, defeating UNLV, 2-0, Thursday night in Nevada. The Redhawks were powered by a brace from Marla Gaudlitz, while Kassidy Kirgan and the backline secure the clean sheet.
"Tonight was an extremely solid game from beginning to end," said head coach Julie Woodward. "Aside from taking some time to get settled the first few minutes we controlled the entire game, and we got some great minutes from all of the players."
Gaudlitz opened her scoring tally in the 18' off of an assist from Caroline Penner. The combination helped increase Penner's lead on active points in the program, with her now standing at 31 over three seasons.
The brace would be secured on another big connection six minutes later, this time with Hallie Bergford assisting Gaudlitz. It marked the first career brace for Gaudlitz and was the 11th career assist for Bergford, who is the active team leader in the stat and is only second to Penner in career points.
It wasn't just a standout game for the Redhawk attack, but also the defense as they picked up the first shutout of the season. Kirgan was called on to make five saves as she was credited with her 12th career win and seventh clean sheet.
"Marla had a special performance scoring two goals and Lina Barnecut got her first minutes and played extremely well for us," Woodward added. "I continue to say the depth of our team is special and we can continue to make changes and the play never drops. On any given day any player can be a starter and that is a good problem to have."
