EUGENE, Ore. - Seattle U women's soccer dropped their 2024 regular season opener to Oregon, 0-1, Thursday night in Oregon. Despite a strong showing from the defense and Kassidy Kirgan in net, the Redhawks couldn't find a goal on the night as they dropped game one of the new campaign.

"Although we are disappointed in the loss, it was a great first game for us in terms of seeing so many different players get some good minutes and play well with those minutes'" said head coach Julie Woodward post-game. "After making a tactical change 20 minutes in the team fought really hard and played out a really good game and they also created a few very dangerous chances."

Kirgan made 10 saves in the season opener, a new career-high for the sophomore. It also tied her with Ariana Romero (10/14/2018) for second most all-time in a single game in program history.

Following a trend she set last season, senior captain and preseason defender of the year, Kait Raffensperger, played all 90 minutes in the match.

Offensively, the Redhawks had eight shots with only one coming on goal. Caroline Penner registered the lone shot on goal and led the way with three shots total on the night.

Seattle U seemed to give up the opening goal in the 68th minute when Oregon fired one in goal from outside of the box, but after a review it was disallowed due to a handball. However, the Ducks would officially net one in the 73rd in what proved to be the game-winner.
