OREM, UT - Seattle U baseball split their doubleheader with Utah Valley on Saturday, winning the first before dropping the second and final game of the series.
GAME 1:
The Redhawks fought back after trailing by three runs through the first inning of play. The comeback was powered by a trio of home runs off the bats of Jackson Reed, Grant Heiser, and Derek Gellos.
It was the second of the season for Reed, while it was number four of the year for both Heiser and Gellos. It was also Heiser's 15th career home run, tying him with Kyle Sherick (2019-22) and Josh Kalalau (2010-11) for 4th all-time in program history.
Blake Smith got the start on the mound, going 4 1/3 IP while giving up five earned on six hits. The victory went to Cameron Dayton (3-3) after he came on in relief during the 5th inning and pitched into the 8th. Ryan Morrison picked up his first save in a Redhawk uniform while securing the final four outs.
GAME 2:
Seattle U once again fell behind to start the game, and once again mounted a comeback that saw the take the lead. This time however, the Redhawks could not hold off the Wolverines as they dropped game two of the day.
Brandon Stinnett ripped a 2-RBI single in the 4th and Derek Gellos continued his big day at the plate by plating a run in the 7th for the only three runs for SU in the second game.
Jarek Woodward (2-6) was given the loss, going five innings while giving up three earned.
With the split, the Redhawks dropped to 14-33 overall and to 7-17 in conference play. The split also meant the Seattle U dropped the series to Utah Valley..
