DENVER, Colo. - Sydney Frankenberger, Lily Garcia, Nicola Simpson, Ava Sin and Jasmine Wehn of Seattle University softball have been named on the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team.
In order to receive the honor, student athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average as well as participate in 90 percent or start in 66 percent of the institutions contests.
Frankenberger was a key member of the Redhawks lineup this season, recording the nation's 59th most hits (67) in 54 outfield starts. The leadoff hitter concluded her Seattle U career in spectacular fashion, earning Second Team All-WAC honors and posting the third best career batting average (.364) in program history. The native of San Ramon, California, claims her second career academic award and graduates this spring with a bachelors of science in Kinesiology.
Garcia concluded her historic Seattle U career this past season, finishing fifth (215) and eighth (205) all-time in games played and starts as a Redhawk. The native of Sylmar, California, grabbed her third straight WAC All-Defensive award, becoming the first WAC athlete to take the honor over the first three years of its existence. Garcia claims her sixth career academic award and second straight CSC Academic All-District honor. She will graduate this spring with a Bachelors of Arts in Pyschology and Criminal Justice with a specialization in Forensic Psychology.
Simpson starred at both the plate and in the circle for the Redhawks in her first season competing in her hometown, posting an ERA of 3.49 over 98.1 innings pitched and a batting average of .262 with four home runs and 24 RBIs. The native of Seattle was the sole Redhawk to claim a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Pitcher of the Week honor for the game week ending on Saturday, April 6, holding a no-hitter through 5.1 innings and grabbing the complete game win over Utah Tech. Simpson claims her fourth career academic award and second straight CSC Academic All-District honor. Simpson is currently pursuing a Master's of Criminal Justice after graduating from Tennessee in two years with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in Spanish.
Sin showed improvement with an increased role in her second season in Seattle, posting new career-bests in runs scored (20), hits (35), home runs (two) and RBIs (21) in a career-high 51 games/44 starts. The native of West Linn, Oregon, claims her second career academic award and first career CSC Academic All-District honor.
Wehn performed strongly after pushing herself into a starting role at first base, posting career-best in runs scored (15), hits (43), doubles (eight), triples (one), home runs (three), RBIs (33), walks drawn (11) and slugging percentage (.431) in a career-high 50 games played/44 starts. The native of Chatsworth, California, claims her first career academic award.
The 2024 Academic All-District Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
