SEATTLE – Seattle University men's basketball has received a commitment from 6-0 guard Brayden Maldonado for the 2024-25 season. Maldonado joins the Redhawks as a junior following two standout seasons at MSU Denver.
"I am thrilled to announce the addition of Brayden to our program," Head Coach Chris Victor said. "He is proven winner who is coming to Seattle after two extremely successful seasons at MSU Denver. Brayden is a potent scorer and playmaker who will fit in very well with our backcourt. I am very excited to have him in a Redhawk uniform!"
An Anchorage, Alaska, native, Maldonado was named to the First Team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team in 2023-24 after leading MSU Denver in scoring with 16.8 points while adding 4.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. The Roadrunners won 19 games and were ranked as high as No. 8 in the national polls during the season. Maldonado was RMAC Co-Freshman of the Year in 2022-23 after averaging 8.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists in his debut collegiate season.
Maldonado earned Class 5A All-State Honorable Mention honors his senior year at Smoky Hill High School. In two varsity seasons, he averaged 18.4 ppg, 5.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals, leading the Buffaloes to the round of 16 in the Class 5A state tournament both years.
A business administration major, Maldonado was a College Sports Communicators Academic All-Region honoree and Academic All-RMAC Honor Roll honoree this past season.
Maldonado is the fourth Redhawk signee for the 2024-25 season, joining forward Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Georgia) and guards Maleek Arington (Auburn, Wash./Idaho State) and DaSean Stevens (Corona, Calif./Mt. San Jacinto College).
