BELLEVUE, WA - Seattle U baseball evened their series with UT Arlington on Saturday, defeating the Mavericks, 4-0, at Bannerwood Park. Blake Smith had a dominant start on the mound for the Redhwks, tossing seven scoreless on the way to his fifth win of the season.
Smith only allowed three hits in his deepest start of the season, going 7 2/3 IP while also striking out four batters. Cameron Dayton would come in midway through the 8th inning and secure his fifth save of 2024, securing the shutout by picking up the final four outs of the game.
The stellar performances on the mound were backed up by a lead for the majority of the game. Derek Gellos had an RBI single in the 3rd that proved to be the game-winner. Jackson Reed would add on in the 8th with an RBI of his own, before a 2-RBI triple off the bat of Grant Heiser concluded the insurance build up.
The win moves the Redhawks to 15-34 overall and to 8-18 in conference play. It was also their third shutout of the season, two of which have come in Smith starts. Seattle U will look to take the series with the Mavericks in game three tomorrow, with first pitch coming at 11am PT.
