TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Women's Golf Heads to Cle Elum NCAA Regional

CLE ELUM, Wash. - Seattle U women's golf heads to the program's first NCAA Regional this coming week, competing as one of 12 teams for a spot in the championship finals. The three-day, 54-hole event will be held from May 6-8 with a practice round on May 5 at Tumble Creek Golf Club in Cle Elum, Washington, on the 6,306 yards course with a par of 72. The Redhawks enter the event as the 12th seed and will be in the second batch of teams teeing off, beginning at 9:55 a.m.

The Redhawks enter the event as the 12th seed and will be in the second batch of teams teeing off, beginning at 9:55 a.m.

Joining the Redhawks in Cle Elum are Stanford, Duke, Arizona State, Virginia, San Jose State, Washington, Alabama, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Long Beach State and Sacramento State. According to clippd rankings, Stanford enters this event as the #1 team, while Duke, Arizona State, Virginia and San Jose State all rank inside the top-25. 

The Redhawks team lineup will consist of Rivekka JumagulovaTsara RalamboarisonAaryanna MorrisShayna Lu and Annika Cruz.

The Redhawks claimed their first-ever Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament Championship on April 21, claiming the team title by two strokes over Abilene Christian. Rivekka Jumagulova was SU's top finisher, finishing in sixth place overall at 11-over 224 (72-75-77). All five Seattle U golfers were vital in the team taking home the team title, using stellar final rounds from Aaryanna Morris and Annika Cruz as well as strong second rounds from Tsara Ralamboarison and Shayna Lu

Jumagulova became Seattle U's first WAC Player of the Year award winner, currently holding a new program record in single-season scoring average at 73.1 (according to clippd). The native of Almaty, Kazakhstan, has played some of her best golf as of late, snatching the last two WAC weekly honors and setting a new program record for lowest 54-hole total (12-under, 204) for her second career individual title at the Bobcat Desert Classic on April 10.  In addition to being named WAC Player of the Year, Jumagulova also takes home First Team All-WAC honors. 

Ralamboarison joined Jumagulova on an All-WAC team, earning All-WAC Second Team for her first career All-WAC award. The native of Eybens, France, tied for the fourth best single-season scoring average at 74.4 (according to clippd), improving her average from last season by over a stroke.

The five lowest scoring teams and the lowest scoring individual not on one of those teams will advance to the finals. Beginning in 2024, regional champion awards will be given to the team champions.
