Redhawks Split Doubleheader Versus Utah Tech

SEATTLE – Seattle U softball (15-22, 7-6 WAC) opened a three game series with Utah Tech on Friday evening, taking the first contest, 3-2, via a walk-off before falling in the second half of the doubleheader, 1-3. Both Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contests took place at Logan Field in Seattle on the campus of Seattle U.

SEATTLE – Seattle U softball (15-22, 7-6 WAC) opened a three game series with Utah Tech on Friday evening, taking the first contest, 3-2, via a walk-off before falling in the second half of the doubleheader, 1-3. Both Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contests took place at Logan Field in Seattle on the campus of Seattle U.

GAME ONE
After both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings, Taylor Fitch opened the scoring with a solo shot over the center field wall. Fitch tied the program's single-game home run record in her very next at bat, leading off the sixth inning with a home run over the left field fence to put SU back up by one. 

Jasmine Wehn sealed the opening game victory for the Redhawks, sending a ball into right field to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh. Sydney Frankenberger smoked a one out double to right center, before Tai Wilson reached on a hard hit ball to shortstop.

Nicola Simpson was spectacular in the circle today, holding a no-hitter through the first 5.1 innings. The Seattle native allowed just one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts in a complete game win. Simpson worked through some trouble in the first before sending down 13 of the next 14 Trailblazers with nine of them coming in a row. 

GAME ONE SCORING
  • Fourth Inning: Taylor Fitch homered to center field.
  • Sixth Inning: Utah Tech scored one run on two hits. Taylor Fitch homered to left field. 
  • Seventh Inning: Utah Tech scored one run on one hits. Jasmine Wehn hit a walk-off double to right field. 
GAME TWO
The Redhawks did their best to get some momentum going at the plate, marking one-out doubles in both the fourth and sixth inning from Taylor Fitch and Jasmine Wehn. Seattle U was able to get on the board in the seventh, using an RBI double from Karen Spadafora out in left center. Lily Garcia was the runner that came around to score, marking a single to right field before Spadafora's at bat.

Berkley Vance provided Seattle U with a chance to get back into the contest over the final two innings, throwing two scoreless innings with just one hit allowed and a strikeout.

GAME TWO SCORING
  • Third Inning: Utah Tech scored two runs on two hits.
  • Fifth Inning: Utah Tech scored one run on two hits. 
  • Sixth Inning: Karen Spadafora hit an RBI double to left center.
