Redhawks Fall Late to #7 Stanford

SEATTLE – Seattle U softball (20-29, 12-11 WAC) went down to the wire with Stanford this afternoon, falling 5-3. The non-conference contest took place at Logan Field on the campus of Seattle U in Seattle. 

The Redhawks opened the scoring in the opening innings, using a Taylor Fitch double through the left side. Sydney Frankenberger led off the contest with a walk before Jasmine Wehn reached base on a hard hit ball to shortstop. 

Nicola Simpson was stellar in the circle through the first four innings, allowing no runs and just four base runners. The Seattle native sent down the Cardinal in order to start the contest before Lily Garcia made a stellar double play on her own in the second to keep Stanford off the board. Simpson stranded a runner on second in the third, while striking out two Cardinal in the fourth.

Fitch tied the contest in the bottom half of the sixth, smacking a ball over the left field fence. After Stanford took the lead in the seventh, Seattle U continued to battle in the final inning. Ava Sin began with a pinch hit single through the left side, while Frankenberger reached on a hard hit ball to shortstop. Jasmine Wehn came through with a runner on, smashing a single to second base.

GAME SCORING

• First Inning: Taylor Fitch doubled through the right side for an RBI. 
• Fifth Inning: Stanford scored two runs on a home run. 
• Sixth Inning: Taylor Fitch homered to left field.
• Seventh Inning: Stanford scored three runs on five hits.

The Redhawks conclude their WAC regular season schedule this weekend, traveling to UT Arlington for a three game series this weekend that starts on Friday at 2 p.m.
