SEATTLE – Seattle U softball (20-28, 12-11 WAC) captured its eighth straight season with a win on senior day Saturday afternoon, defeating Tarleton by a scoreline of 6-1. Karen Spadafora's RBI single in the fourth proved to be the winning run, while Stefanie Madrigal pitched a complete game gem in the circle. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contests took place at Logan Field on the campus of Seattle U in Seattle.
After Tarleton scored in the opening inning, Seattle U immediately tied the contest in the bottom half on an RBI double from Taylor Fitch. Sydney Frankenberger lead off with a single through the left side to allow Fitch the chance to do something with a runner on base.
Spadafora's lead taking RBI single in the fourth came after Fitch opened with a walk and Nicola Simpson singled through the left side to put two runners on with no outs. Lily Garcia preceded to lay a spectacular bunt down the first base line that gave Spadafora the RBI chance.
Jasmine Wehn added an insurance run for the Redhawks in the fifth on an RBI single up the middle. Tai Wilson lead off with a walk before Mikee Morris did the same two batters later.
Wehn concluded a career-best RBI day in the sixth, smashing a bases clearing, two-out double into left center field for three RBIs. Madrigal reached by a hit by pitch, before Wilson back-to-back singles from WIlson and Frankenberger provided Wehn with a chance to come through.
Madrigal was once again fantastic in the circle for a Saturday start, grabbing the complete game win after allowing just one run and two hits. The San Jose, Calif., native worked herself out of danger in the second, before sending the Texans down in order in the third. Madrigal allowed just one base runner in the fourth and worked around two errors in the fifth to hold Tarleton off the board. The senior forced a double play to erase a lead off single in the sixth and concluded her team-leading 11th win of the season with a three up, three down inning in the final frame. Madrigal has been stellar for the Redhawks in Saturday WAC series starts, grabbing five wins in all five contests.
