SEATTLE – Seattle University men's basketball Head Coach Chris Victor has announced the signing of Maleek Arington and DaSean Stevens for the 2024-25 season. Both players will enter the Redhawk squad as juniors.
Arington, a 6-3, 200-pound guard, is a familiar name in the Pacific Northwest, hailing from Auburn, Wash., and Auburn High School. He spent his first two collegiate seasons at Idaho State where he appeared in 55 total games. This past season, he started all 30 games for the Bengals, averaging 12.0 points, 5.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals.
"Maleek is a tough, competitive point guard who has had two very successful years of college basketball," Victor said. "He is an absolute winner, impacting the game in a variety of ways and making everyone around him better. Growing up in Auburn, we can't wait to get him in a Redhawk uniform and back home in Seattle."
Arington was a First Team All-North Puget Sound League player for the Trojans. He was named NPSL Defensive Player of the Year while leading his team to the 2022 Washington 3A state championship. He also represented Washington in the Washington vs. Oregon All-Star game.
Stevens, a 6-3, 180-pound guard from Corona, Calif., spent the past two seasons at Mt. San Jacinto College in San Jacinto, Calif. A two-time All-State and two-time First Team All-Inland Empire Athletic Conference honoree, he led the Eagles to 50 wins over two seasons. Stevens was the Eagles' leader in scoring and assists both years, averaging 21.0 points and 4.5 assists as a freshman and 21.5 points and 4.2 assists as a sophomore.
"DaSean is a dynamic guard who has a special ability to score the ball," said Victor. "He has had a ton of success at both the high school and junior college levels and will make an immediate impact in our program. His competitive character is a great fit for our program and university."
Prior to MSJC, Stevens attended Redlands East Valley High School and Academy of Sports Science (AOSS) Prep. In three years at REV, he was a three-time First-Team All-Citrus Belt League and two-time All-State selection, amassing 1,225 points, 459 rebounds and 351 assists. Competing at AOSS Prep his senior year, Stevens averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
