ARLINGTON, TX - Lamija Avdic was named the WAC Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday, April 17. Along with her impressive Freshman of the Year award, Avdic was also named singles first team All-WAC.
Avdic had an impressive first season with the Redhawks, with an overall record of 16-6 and a dominant conference record of 7-0 in singles play. Avdic also shined in doubles play with partner Lola Tavcar, who finished the regular season with a 12-4 overall record and 5-2 conference record together.
"I'm extremely proud of Lamija and her hard work throughout the whole season" says head coach, Kristina Hollander. "It showcases her dedication to our tennis program as well as her potential to be one of the greatest athletes Seattle U has had" she continues.
Junior Elena Kraleva also received a conference award, being named singles second team All-WAC. Kraleva competed in the No. 1 singles spot for the majority of the season, earning an overall record of 12-9 and an impressive conference record of 5-1.
The Redhawks will hope to continue their impressive season in their quarterfinal match against Abilene Christian at the WAC Tournament this Thursday, April 18.
