Track and Field: Highlights from the Long Beach and Bryan Clay Invitationals

AZUSA, CA - Seattle U track and field traveled to California this weekend to compete in both the Long Beach Pacific Coast Invite and Bryan Clay Invitational from Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13. The meat featured multiple impressive performances from the Redhawks, including four new school records.

AZUSA, CA - Seattle U track and field traveled to California this weekend to compete in both the Long Beach Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational from Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13. The meet featured multiple impressive performances from the Redhawks, including four new school records. 

Azalea Groleau continued her impressive sophomore season for the Redhawks, breaking the school record for the women's 5k with her time of 16:46.75. This is the second school record that Groleau has set in her sophomore season after breaking the cross country record for the women's 6k with a time of 20:47.9 at the NCAA West Regionals on November 10, 2023. Groleau also holds the second place spots in school records in both the women's indoor 3k (9:46.46) and outdoor 1500m (4:30.34) due to her performances this season. 

Grad transfer Yonas Sauers also continued his notable season for the Redhawks by setting a new school record in the men's outdoor 10k with his time of 29:42.66. Sauers broke the previous record of 30:28.40 by a significant margin. This is the fourth school record that Sauers has broken since becoming a Redhawk this season. Earlier in the year, Sauers broke the cross country record for the 8k (23:52.6), the indoor 3k (8:16.42), and the men's indoor 5k (14:23.74).

Junior Alex Franklin has also set multiple school records this season, including a new record set for the men's 800m this weekend. Franklin beat his own previous record in the 800m of 1:52:51 that he set on March 30 with his new time of 1:52:45 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Saturday. 

Senior Gus Harquail also defeated his own school record in the men's 3k steeplechase this weekend by a significant margin. Harquail defeated his previous record of 8:59.44 by over 3 seconds with his new time of 8:56.10 this Saturday at the Bryan Clay Invite. 

Junior Lilianne Hargreaves landed herself a number three spot in school records in the women's 1500m over the weekend with her time of 4:32.93. Hargreaves moves up to the third place spot from the fifth place spot, showing significant improvement from her previous best time of 4:34.14 set on March 23.

Junior Taylor Marks also showed improvement, beating her previous personal best time in the seventh place spot in school records for the women's 100 meter. Marks beat her previous best time of 12.79 by .10 seconds with her new personal best time of 12.69. 

The Redhawks set ten new personal bests throughout their trip to California, bringing them to 71 total personal bests set so far in the outdoor season. Track and field will continue their outdoor season at the OSU High Performance Meet on April 26 and 27.
