ABILENE, Texas – A nine-point first half lead would not hold on the road for Seattle University men's basketball as the Redhawks fell, 64-59, at Abilene Christian Thursday night in Moody Coliseum.
The Redhawks (18-12, 11-8 WAC) shot better than 52% in the first half and 48% for the game, but did not take care of the basketball, finishing with 17 giveaways that the Wildcats turned into 14 points in a game that finished in a five-point spread.
Cameron Tyson and Alex Schumacher had 13 points apiece to lead four Redhawks in double figures. Brandton Chatfield finished one rebound shy of a double-double, turning in a 12-point, nine rebound performance. John Christofilis added 10 points for Seattle U.
ACU (15-15, 10-9 WAC), which won its seventh straight, was paced by 13 points apiece from Ali Dibba and Hunter Madden.
Seattle U led 20-11 early, but a slew of turnovers late in the half allowed the Wildcats to close the gap, rolling off eight points to knot the score, 31-31, at the break.
Turnovers continued to plague the Redhawks in the second half as ACU built a 48-49 lead midway through. A 6-0 run put the lead briefly back in the Redhawks' hands, 56-55, with just under two minutes to play, but ACU responded with six straight points of its own, then hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
Seattle U concludes the road trip and the regular season at Tarleton on Saturday. Tip off from Wisdom Gymnasium is 4 p.m. Central Time, 2 p.m. Pacific.
