Softball Completes Sweep of Stephen F. Austin Saturday

SEATTLE – Seattle U softball (14-19, 6-3 WAC) grabbed its second straight Western Athletic Conference (WAC) series this weekend, completing a three game sweep of Stephen F. Austin on Saturday by a scoreline of 6-2. Nicola Simpson was stellar in the circle and at the plate, allowing just one run across five innings and hitting a three-run home run over the left field fence in her sole plate appearance. Today's WAC series finale took place at Logan Field on the campus of Seattle U in Seattle.

SEATTLE – Seattle U softball (14-19, 6-3 WAC) grabbed its second straight Western Athletic Conference (WAC) series this weekend, completing a three game sweep of Stephen F. Austin on Saturday by a scoreline of 6-2. Nicola Simpson was stellar in the circle and at the plate, allowing just one run across five innings and hitting a three-run home run over the left field fence in her sole plate appearance. Today's WAC series finale took place at Logan Field on the campus of Seattle U in Seattle. 

The Redhawks scored in the first inning in all three contests this weekend, opening today with three runs on four hits. Sydney Frankenberger opened with a bunt single before Mikee Morris singled two batters later. With two outs, Taylor Fitch smacked a double over the center fielders head to drive in both base-runners and would score in the next at bat as Ava Sin singled up the middle.

Seattle U added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, using the three-run home run for Nicola Simpson to make it six-one. Fitch reached to open the inning on a hit by pitch, while Sin singled to left field to put two runners on with no outs. Lily Garcia moved them over with a sacrifice bunt that allowed Simpson the opportunity as a pinch-hitter.

Simpson was strong from the get go in the circle, allowing just one base-runner through the first two innings and forcing six ground outs. The Seattle native allowed just five hits and one walk across her five innings of work before Berkley Vance concluded the contest with two strong innings that featured four strikeouts. 

NOTABLE WEEKLY STATS

  • Ava Sin - 5-9 (.556) one double, one triple, one home run and four RBIs.
  • Karen Spadafora - 4-8 (.500), three RBIs and one walk drawn.
  • Tai Wilson - 4-9 (.444), three runs scored, two doubles and four walks drawn.
  • Taylor Fitch - 4-9 (.444), three runs scored, two doubles and four RBIs. 
  • Seattle U pitching staff allowed just three total runs across 19 innings in the SFA series.
GAME SCORING
  • First Inning: Taylor Fitch doubled to center field for two RBIs. Ava Sin singled up the middle for an RBI.
  • Fourth Inning: SFA scored one run on two hits. Nicola Simpson hit a three-run home run to left field.
  • Seventh Inning: SFA scored one run on two hits.
The Redhawks hit the road for some midweek action before returning home for the weekend, facing off with Utah Valley in a doubleheader on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. pacific time.
