DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Seattle University men's basketball is headed to the Ro College Basketball Invitational Championship game following a 75-58 victory over Fairfield Tuesday night at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Redhawks (22-14) put on an offensive and defensive clinic in the second half to turn a four-point halftime lead into a 23-point advantage inside two minutes to play. Seattle U hit their first six shots of the frame on their way to an 18-for-28 performance (64%) from the field, including 6-of-8 from three. On the other end of the court, they held the Stags (24-13) to 31% FG shooting.
John Christofilis and Cameron Tyson each poured in a game-high 21 points, including five triples for Tyson. Paris Dawson added seven points while Alex Schumacher and Brandton Chatfield added six apiece.
Fairfield was paced by Caleb Fields' 20 points. Jasper Floyd added 13 points for the Stags.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, combining to shoot 4-for-25 from three. The Redhawks led by as many as eight late in the frame before Fields hit a pair of late jumpers to make it a 28-24 at the break.
This marks Seattle U's first trip to the CBI title game in four total tournament appearances. The third-seeded Redhawks will face top-seed High Point, which earned an 81-80 win over Arkansas State in the other semifinal.
Seattle U and High Point will meet for the first time in their program histories. Tip off is set for 5 p.m. Eastern, 2 p.m. Pacific on ESPN2.
