SEATTLE, WA – Seattle U women's tennis began conference play on a high note with a 6-1 defeat over Stephen F. Austin in their home match this Friday, March 22. The Redhawks' victory improves their overall record to 6-5 on the season.
The Redhawks started out the match strong with a doubles win by the duo of Lamija Avdic and Lola Tavcar, who defeated Alkmini Giannakogiorgou and Avery Kinsey with a score of 6-2. Juniors Elena Kraleva and Jade Quintana then came through to seal the doubles point for the Redhawks with their 6-4 victory over Jemma Cave and Felicia Back.
The Redhawks also showed strong in singles play, beginning with freshman Yuna Kadowaki's defeat over Avery Kinsey (6-2, 6-2). Elena Kraleva and Lamija Avdic also came out on top in their matches, with Kraleva defeating Mamontova (6-2, 6-2) and Avdic defeating Felicia Back (6-2, 6-4). Junior Liliya Dimova was victorious in her match against Jemma Cave (6-1, 6-4), and freshman Anastasia Nikolova defeated Alkmini Giannakogiorgou (6-2, 6-3). To round out singles play, junior Jade Quintana lost a close match against Carolina Chiatti (6-74,6-79), resulting in a 6-1 overall score in the Redhawks favor.
"I'm really happy with our win and it is a great way to start the conference competition" says head coach Kristina Hollander. "The team battled hard and showed great toughness. We are all excited for the remainder of the conference season", she continues.
The Redhawks will hope to bring the positive momentum from this victory into their next home match of the weekend against Grand Canyon on Sunday, March 24.
