Redhawks Set Program Runs Record in Abilene

ABILENE, Tex. – Seattle U softball (10-18) bounced back in a big way after dropping the first contest of the day, 3-11, setting a new program best runs scored record with a 17-7 win over Abilene Christian. Both contests took place at the Poly Wells Field in Abilene, Texas, on the campus of Abilene Christian.

ABILENE, Tex. – Seattle U softball (10-18) bounced back in a big way after dropping the first contest of the day, 3-11, setting a new program best runs scored record with a 17-7 win over Abilene Christian. Both contests took place at the Poly Wells Field in Abilene, Texas, on the campus of Abilene Christian.

GAME ONE
Mikee Morris started off the day with a strong game in the opener, going two-for-two with two RBIs. Morris initially put the Redhawks in front with a solo shot in the first inning and drove home the second run of the game with a triple to the right center field gap. 

Seattle U did its best to keep the game going in the fifth, scoring a run on an RBI double from Tai Wilson. Karen Spadafora and Sophia Kissling knocked back-to-back singles to provide Wilson with the opportunity. 

GAME ONE SCORING

  • First Inning: Mikee Morris homered down the left field line. ACU scored seven runs on five hits. 
  • Third Inning: Mikee Morris tripled to right center for an RBI. ACU scored one run on a stolen base.
  • Fourth Inning: ACU scored two runs on three hits. 
  • Fifth Inning: Tai Wilson doubled to left field for an RBI. ACU scored one run on a ground out. 
GAME TWO
The Redhawks got the offense started quickly in the second game of the day, posting three runs on one hit in the first inning. Sydney Frankenberger and Tai Wilson marked back-to-back walks before Jasmine Wehn also walked two batters later. Taylor Fitch singled to right to drive home the opening run before Karen Spadafora and Lily Garcia used hard hit balls to drive in runs of their own. 

After falling behind in the third, Seattle U tied the contest immediately in the fourth on two hits. Nicola Simpson opened with a walk before Sophia Kissling got on due to a fielder's choice and then proceeded to put herself in scoring position on a stolen base. Frankenberger singled to the shortstop, while Wilson put them both 60 feet closer on a slow roller. Mikee Morris drove in the game tying run, smacking a single into right field.

Continuing to fight back in the fifth, Seattle U made it a one run game going into the bottom half with two runs on four hits. Garcia and Simpson both marked back-to-back singles before Katie Walling drove in Garcia on a strong single to left field. Tai Wilson walked two batters later to load the bases for Morris who continued to come threw, driving a ball into left field for an RBI. 

Berkely Vance sent the Wildcats down in order in the fifth inning, forcing all three batters into fly outs. 

Nicola Simpson put Seattle U in front for good in the sixth inning, smashing a three-run home run to left field. Fitch and Spadafora both marked singles earlier in the inning to allow Simpson the chance with two outs.

The Redhawks set the program's new runs scored record thanks to a stellar eight runs scored on five hits in the final inning. Frankenberger singled before Wilson walked and Morris reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Wehn doubled to left center to score two, while Fitch was hit by a pitch right after. Spadafora singled to center field for an RBI before Garcia added another across home on a fielder's choice. After Simpson walked to load the bases once more, Ava Sin walked to bring in another run. Frankenberger singled again in her second at bat of the inning, before Mikee Morris put a hard to play ball into right field to bring the final two runs around to score.

Avari Morris grabbed her second career save in this contest, striking out three Wildcats and allowing just one hit in two innings of work. 

GAME TWO SCORING
  • First Inning: Taylor Fitch singled to right field for an RBI. Karen Spadafora reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI. Lily Garcia reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI. 
  • Third Inning: ACU scored four runs on four hits.
  • Fourth Inning: Mikee Morris singled to right field for an RBI. The Wildcats scored three runs on four hits. 
  • Fifth Inning: Katie Walling singled to left field for an RBI. Mikee Morris singled to left field for an RBI. 
  • Sixth Inning: Nicola Simpson hit a three-run home run to left field. 
  • Seventh Inning: Jasmine Wehn doubled to left center for two RBIs. Karen Spadafora singled to center field for an RBI. Lily Garcia reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI. Ava Simpson walked in a run with the bases loaded for an RBI. Sydney Frankenberger singled to left for an RBI. Mikee Morris reached on a error by left to score two runs. 
The Redhawks series against Abilene Christian comes to a close on Saturday, facing off in a rubber match at 10 a.m. pacific time.
