BELLEVUE, WA - Seattle U baseball secured their first series win of the 2024 season, defeating UTRGV, 6-4, Saturday afternoon at Bannerwood Park. The Redhawks have now taken the first two games of their 3-game series with the Vaqueros.

For the second straight game, the Redhawks would jump out to an early lead off of RBIs from Mateo Zeppieri in the 1st and Trevor Antonson in the 2nd. This 2-0 advantage would hold until the Vaqueros would score four unanswered between the 4th and 5th.

Seattle U would then create a rally of their own, kicked off by a 2-run home run by Kellen Carr in the bottom of the 5th. It was his first collegiate long ball and tied the ball game up. An RBI single by Cole Kleckner in the 7th and RBI double by Cameron Dayton in the 8th would help reclaim the lead and add insurance.

Jarek Woodward (1-2), who came on to start the 7th, would come out to try to close out the game and pickup his first win in a Redhawk uniform. After striking out the first two batters, Woodward would get the final Vaquero batter to ground out and secure the series win.

The Redhawks now improve to 6-11 on the season and to 2-3 in WAC play. SU will look for their first conference series sweep since 2019, when they swept Chicago State twice, in game three tomorrow. First pitch from Bannerwood Park is scheduled for 12pm PT.
