LAS VEGAS – Seattle University men's basketball run in the 2024 Western Athletic Conference Tournament came to an end Friday night in the semifinals as the fourth-seeded Redhawks fell 80-72 to top-seed Grand Canyon at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
Alex Schumacher led five Redhawks in double figures, finishing with 21 points to go with seven rebounds and seven assists. John Christofilis had 12 points, Seyi Riley had 11 on 5-5 FGs and Cameron Tyson and Brandton Chatfield added 10 apiece.
Tyson Grant-Foster had a game-high 28 points for GCU, which also got 17 from Ray Harrison and 12 from Lok Wur.
A back and forth first half saw the Redhawks hold a 34-32 lead at the break.
A 12-3 GCU run early in the second half flipped the advantage and put the Lopes ahead by eight, 47-39, with 13:32 on the clock.
The Redhawks (19-14) would rally to tie the score, 55-55, on a Chatfield putback layup with 8:31 to play. But Seattle U would never get back over the hump as the Lopes (28-4) scored 12 of their final 25 points from the charity stripe and the Redhawks finished just 37% from the field in the frame.
