SEDONA, Ariz. – Seattle U women's golf returns to action on the 2024 spring season this weekend, traveling to Sedona, Arizona, for the Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by NAU. The two-day, 54-hole event will open play on Saturday at the Oakcreek Country Club with yardage of 6,200 on day one and 6,065 on day two as well as a par of 72. Both days will feature shotgun starts at 7:15 a.m. pacific time, while round two will immediately follow round one on Saturday.
The Redhawks will be competing against golfers from Weber State, Wichita State, Grand Canyon, Montana, Cal State Fullerton, Southern Utah, Illinois State, Northern Colorado, Idaho, Lipscomb, NIU, Cal State Northridge, Missouri State, Montana State, Navy, Creighton, Eastern Washington, North Dakota State and the hosts, Northern Arizona. Seattle U will send Shayna Lu, Tsara Ralamboarison, Rivekka Jumagulova, Annika Cruz and Aaryanna Morris.
This marks the first time Seattle U has competed in this event since the 2018-19 season and ninth overall time. The Redhawks won this event during the 2016-17 season, taking home the team crown via a tiebreaker and placing two individuals inside the top-seven.
Last time out, Seattle U claimed third overall out of 12 teams at the Ball State Puerto Rico Classic. Lu finished the week as the Redhawks top finisher, tying for seventh place overall at one-over 217. The Redhawks led the field in par three average (3.13) and scoring (eight-over) as well as made pars (187). Ralamboarison also snatched a finish inside the top-15, marking 44 overall made pars to lead the field in that category.
Aaryanna Morris was named WAC Co-Golfer of the Week, for the tournament week ending on Wednesday, Feb. 28., after her performance at the Grand Canyon Invitational. The sophomore set a new program record after posting the lowest 54 hole total by one golfer (207) as she tied for third place overall at nine-under. Morris was phenomenal in the second round on Monday afternoon, finishing with a single round total of seven-under 65 which ranks second all-time in lowest single round score and round score versus par. Morris also led the field in made birdies (17). This was her first career WAC weekly award.
