PORTLAND, OR - Seattle U men's tennis fought hard against Portland State this Friday, Feb. 2 and eventually lost an incredibly close match with an overall score of 3-4.
The Redhawks started out strong in doubles with Filip Stipic and Yu-Han Hsieh defeating the duo of Andrin Zuellig and Luka Jovanovic with a dominant 6-2 score. Jun Sasagawa and Veselin Kiselkov then dropped a close match against Jan Semerak and Andrea Brignacca (5-7). Julian Worn and Michael Frank then stepped up to fight for the doubles point and earned it for the Redhawks by defeating Hembo Mathiasen and Simon Kuszynski (6-4).
Juniors Filip Stipic and Veselin Kiselkov earned singles points for the Redhawks, Stipic defeating Hembo Mathiasen (7-5, 6-2) and Kiselkov defeating Kuszynski (6-4, 6-4). Jun Sasagawa and Julian Worn ultimately lost competitive matches, Sasagawa to Jan Semerak (6-2, 3-6, 5-7) and Worn to Andrea Brignacca (3-6, 6-1, 6-7). Yu-Han Hsieh dropped his match against Hubert Theriault (0-6, 2-6), leaving the overall score to 3-3. Michael Frank fought in a competitive match against Luka Jovanovic, but ultimately dropped the match (2-6, 6-2, 5-7).
The Redhawks will continue their weekend in Portland, Oregon with a match against Portland on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 10 am PST.
