SEATTLE – In the presence of the only other person to score his 2,000th career point in a Seattle University uniform, Cameron Tyson walked off the court standing at 2,003 and the Redhawks used a blazing second half to down visiting UTRGV, 84-56, Saturday in the Redhawk Center.
Tyson entered the game needing 18 points to hit the 2k marker and join the elite status of Hall of Famer, and the program's all-time leading scorer, Johnny O'Brien (1950-53). The Bothell, Wash., native was on a mission from the opening tip, scoring 13 points in the first half on 5-7 FGs.
He hit is fourth three of the night at the 17:35 mark of the second half for 16 points. Then, on the next possession, buried another three, this time from the right wing to tick his career scoring total to 2,001. A pair of free throws moments later gave Tyson 21 on the night and 2,003, and counting, for his collegiate career.

The season's 18th win didn't come easy early on as UTRGV (6-21, 2-14 WAC) scored the game's first seven points. But the Redhawks (18-10, 11-6 WAC) answered with 12 straight and would lead 29-27 at the half.
Seattle U got hot in the second half, hitting 9-of-16 from three and 18-of-32 (56.3%) overall, while clamping down on defense and holding the Vaqueros to just 29% shooting. The result - a dominant 55-29 half and a runaway win.
John Christofilis led all scorers with 24 points, including six threes. Paris Dawson added nine points, Alex Schumacher had eight points and seven assists and Brandton Chatfield chipped in seven points. Kobe Williamson cleaned up on the boards, finished with 11 rebounds to go with three blocks.
Seattle U remains at home for one more, hosting UT Arlington on Thursday, Feb. 29. Tip off from the Redhawk Center is 7 p.m. The senior class of Tyson, Schumacher, Seyi Reiley and Matthew Levis will be honored in a ceremony prior to their final game in Seattle.
