Redhawks Fall to No. 21 California, CSU Fullerton

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Seattle U softball (6-8) finished its second day of play at the Mary Nutter Classic on Saturday, falling to No. 21 California, 4-6, and CSU Fullerton, 1-4. Both contests were a part of the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, California, at Big League Dreams Sports Park.

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Seattle U softball (6-8) finished its second day of play at the Mary Nutter Classic on Saturday, falling to No. 21 California, 4-6, and CSU Fullerton, 1-4. Both contests were a part of the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, California, at Big League Dreams Sports Park. 

CALIFORNIA CONTEST
Berkley Vance marked her first career collegiate start in the opening contest of the day, throwing five innings and working herself out of jams in the second and third to keep the game scoreless at that point. 

After California took the lead in the fourth, Seattle U battled back and took the lead in the fifth inning with two home runs. Ava Sin came up to the plate with a runner on and two outs, smoking a ball down the right field line for a two run shot.

Taylor Fitch drew a hard fought walk in the very next at bat, allowing for Nicola Simpson to crush her first home run in a Redhawk uniform over the left field fence.

CALIFORNIA CONTEST SCORING
  • Fourth Inning: The Golden Bears scored two runs on three hits. 
  • Fifth Inning: California scored one run on two hits. Ava Sin hit a two-run, home run to right field. Nicola Simpson hit a two-run, home run to left field. 
  • Sixth Inning: California scored two runs on two hits.
  • Seventh Inning: Cal scored one run on one hit. 
CSU FULLERTON CONTEST

Seattle U did its best to fight back into this contest after falling behind early, with Taylor Fitch and Nicola Simpson recording back-to-back singles in the second inning. 

Taylor Fitch marked her second home run of the weekend in the final inning, crushing a ball over the center field fence.

Avari Morris did her best to keep Seattle U in the contest, throwing two shutout innings in the fifth and sixth. The freshman allowed just one hit and struck out one Titan.

  • First Inning: The Titans scored one run on one hit. 
  • Second Inning: CSU Fullerton scored one run on two hits. 
  • Fourth Inning: CSU Fullerton scored two runs on one hit.
  • Seventh Inning: Taylor Fitch hit a solo home run to center field.
Seattle U concludes play at the Mary Nutter Classic on Sunday, facing off with No. 1 Oklahoma at 9 a.m. in Cathedral City.
