SEATTLECameron Tyson poured in 27 points, Alex Schumacher added 17 to go with eight assists and Seattle University men's basketball put together one of its most convincing wins of the season, 69-49, against Western Athletic Conference opponent Stephen F. Austin Thursday night in the Redhawk Center.

The complete game victory saw the Redhawks (17-10, 10-6 WAC) shoot better than 53% from the field while holding the Lumberjacks (14-12, 7-8 WAC) to just 28%, including 20% from three. SFA had single-digit field goal totals in each half, finishing with a season-low in scoring.

"I'm really proud of how our guys played and competed and defended," said Head Coach Chris Victor. "We've been talking about defending and rebounding for the last few weeks and we've been really inconsistent in those areas. But this was our best defensive performance of the year."

SFA scored the first five points of the game before Tyson got rolling for the Redhawks. The Bothell, Wash., native rolled off 11 consecutive points, including back-to-back threes and three free throws after being fouled on a third straight attempt.

A Brandton Chatfield alley-oop dunk topped the run at 13 straight and gave Seattle U a lead it would never relinquish.

Tyson finished the first half with 15 points and the Redhawks carried a 30-24 advantage into the break.

While Tyson added 12 points in the second frame, it was Schumacher who took over, scoring 15 of his 17 in the frame, while adding five rebounds and five assists.

The Lumberjacks cut Seattle U's lead down to seven, but a late 16-3 Redhawk run ballooned the lead to 21, 67-46, with 1:52 to play, putting the outcome solidly in hand.

"Cam played great," said Victor. "He got us going early and was consistent the whole night. And then in the second half, Schu took the game over. He controlled the tempo, controlled the basketball and made some great reads."

The Redhawks continue their three-game homestead on Saturday, Feb. 24, hosting UTRGV in a 3 p.m. tip off from the Redhawk Center.
