Seattle U Sweeps Sunday in Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Seattle U softball (5-5) swept the final day's worth of action at the Silicon Valley Classic I on Sunday, taking down Santa Clara, 5-4, and Nevada, 6-3, in two close contest. Three Redhawks recorded three hit games, including Mikee Morris, who's two RBI single sealed the second win of the day. Both contests were a part of the Silicon Valley Classic I, hosted by San Jose State and Santa Clara, at the Santa Clara Softball Stadium on the campus of Santa Clara in Santa Clara, California.

Three Redhawks recorded three hit games, including Mikee Morris, who's two RBI single sealed the second win of the day. Both contests were a part of the Silicon Valley Classic I, hosted by San Jose State and Santa Clara, at the Santa Clara Softball Stadium on the campus of Santa Clara in Santa Clara, California. 

GAME ONE
The Redhawks grabbed the lead early in this one, behind Lily Garcia's RBI single to center field in the second inning. Ava Sin marked the first of her three hits in this contest with a double to left field to open the inning. 

Seattle U put two more on the board in the third, thanks to RBI base hits from Taylor Fitch and Jasmine Wehn. Tai Wilson put herself in scoring position after singling up the middle and then proceeded to steal second base. Fitch smacked the ball the opposite way for an RBI double, while Wehn scored Fitch on the very next at bat with a single of her own down the left field line.

The Redhawks added important runs in the fifth and sixth inning, scoring one each in both. After Sydney Frankenberger managed to get herself to third base, Ava Sin beat out an infield single to third base to put SU's fourth run on the board.

The sixth inning saw Mikee Morris and Tai Wilson smack back-to-back doubles, with Wilson's double being her third hit of the game and allowing Morris to score from second.

Stefanie Madrigal enjoyed another strong performance in the circle, allowing just one earned run while striking out four Broncos. Madrigal was cruising early in this contest, sending down the first seven Broncos in order and not allowing a hit until the third. 

GAME ONE SCORING
  • Second Inning: Lily Garcia singled to center field, scoring the opening run.
  • Third Inning: Taylor Fitch doubled to right center, scoring Tai Wilson. Jasmine Wehn singled down the left field line, scoring Fitch.
  • Fourth Inning: Santa Clara scored one run on one hit.
  • Fifth Inning: Ava Sin singled to third base, scoring Sydney Frankenberger.
  • Sixth Inning: Tai Wilson doubled to left field to score Mikee Morris. SCU scored two runs on one hit. 
  • Seventh Inning: SCU scored one run on two hits. 
GAME TWO
The Redhawks used a five run sixth inning to complete a comeback win over Nevada, highlighted by a Mikee Morris two run RBI single with two outs. 

Taylor Fitch got the action started with a single to right, before Ava Sin drew a full count walk to put runners on with two outs. Katie Walling and Lily Garcia hit back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game at three all. Karen Spadafora proceeded Morris, drawing a full count walk to load the bases for the freshman. 

Nicola Simpson did a good job of limiting the damage when faced with it, working out of runner in scoring position jams in the first three innings without allowing more than a run an inning. Berkley Vance grabbed her first career collegiate win after throwing two strong innings that included a one, two, three inning in the seventh to seal it. 

GAME TWO SCORING The Redhawks will be back in action next weekend, opening play at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, California, against CSUN and UC Riverside, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
