SAN JOSE, Calif. – Seattle U softball (3-4) began the second weekend of action on the 2024 season this afternoon, falling to Cal Poly, 1-3, and San Jose State, 0-3. Both contests were a part of the Silicon Valley Classic I, hosted by San Jose State and Santa Clara, at the Spartan Softball Stadium on the campus of SJSU in San Jose, California.
GAME ONE
After falling behind by two runs, the Redhawks got on the board in the third inning thanks to deep fly ball to left field from Nicola Simpson that plated Katie Walling on a sacrifice fly. Walling reached base on an error by the third baseman, while Taylor Fitch moved her into scoring position with her second single of the morning into left field.
Stefanie Madrigal looked good in the middle innings, allowing just three hits from the second to the fifth inning and sending the Mustangs down in order in the second. Avari Morris came in to pitch the seventh, providing another scoreless inning without allowing a hit.
Sydney Frankenberger knocked another two hits in this contest, improving her average to a team-leading, .429, before the later contest.
GAME ONE SCORING
- First Inning: The Mustangs scored two runs on three hits.
- Third Inning: Nicola Simpson hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Katie Walling.
- Sixth Inning: Cal Poly scored one run on two hits.
The Redhawks did their best to get some offense going in the second game of the day, putting together extra base hits in both the third and fifth inning. Sydney Frankenberger marked her first triple of the season in the third, getting in scoring position with one out. Mikee Morris recorded her first career double in the fifth and advanced to third on a passed ball.
After allowing a couple runs in the first two innings, Nicola Simpson settled in during the third, giving up just two hits over the next three innings. Berkley Vance pitched the Redhawks out of a jam in the sixth, striking out the final batter with a runner on third.

- Second Inning: The Spartans scored one run on one hit.
- Sixth Inning: SJSU scored one run on two hits.
