Redhawks Earn Key Road Win, 78-68

CEDAR CITY, Utah – John Christofilis scored a game-high 25 points, Cameron Tyson added 18 and Seattle University men's basketball picked up a big Western Athletic Conference road win, 78-68, at Southern Utah Thursday night at America First Event Center in Cedar City, Utah.

CEDAR CITY, UtahJohn Christofilis scored a game-high 25 points, Cameron Tyson added 18 and Seattle University men's basketball picked up a big Western Athletic Conference road win, 78-68, at Southern Utah Thursday night at America First Event Center in Cedar City, Utah.

The Redhawks moved to 15-10 on the season and 8-6 in WAC play with the road win, completing the season sweep of the Thunderbirds (9-16, 4-10 WAC).

A 9-0 run midway through the first half opened up a 25-14 Seattle U advantage. The Redhawks would never trail again.

Christofilis was the offensive cog in the first half, draining 7-of-10 FGs, including 4-of-6 from three, for 18 points as the Redhawks took a convincing 39-25 lead into the break.

Seattle U shot 50% in the frame while holding Southern Utah to just a 29% clip.

The Thunderbirds made a run to open the second half, scoring the first 12 points to pull within two. Seattle U would open the gap back up to lead by as many as 18, 71-53, before settling for the final 10-point win.

Alex Schumacher added nine points, Viktor Rajković had six points and seven boards off the bench and freshman Malek Gomma had a breakout game, finishing with four points, three rebounds and two steals in 17 minutes of action.

The Redhawks continue on the road Saturday, traveling down I-15 to face Utah Tech in St. George. Tip off if scheduled for 7 p.m. Mountain Time, 6 p.m Pacific.
