Women's Tennis Dominates Gonzaga

SPOKANE, WA - Seattle U women's tennis came through with a huge win over Gonzaga this Sunday, defeating them with an overall score of 5-2. The Redhawks win their second match in a row after defeating Eastern Washington on Saturday, and bring their record up to 4-3 on the season.

SPOKANE, WA - Seattle U women's tennis came through with a huge win over Gonzaga this Sunday, defeating them with an overall score of 5-2. The Redhawks win their second match in a row after defeating Eastern Washington on Saturday, and bring their record up to 4-3 on the season. 

"I'm extremely proud of the way the team fought today, " says head coach Kristina Hollander. "Everyone came out ready for a battle and delivered in both doubles and singles. This is a great achievement for our program and I am excited to see the progress we've made" she continues. 

The Redhawks were defeated in their first doubles match, with Elena Kraleva and Anastasia Nikolova falling to the duo of Kianna Oda and Emily Robertson. Lamija Avdic and Lola Tavcar then came through with a strong win over Caroline Wernli and Ella Nielsen, defeating them with a score of 6-3 and keeping the doubles point alive for the Redhawks. The duo of Yuna Kadowaki and Liliya Dimova secured the doubles point for the Redhawks with their dominant 6-2 win over Tiegen Aitken and Brooke Bittner. 

The Redhawks were also dominant in singles play, beginning with Yuna Kadowaki's strong victory in her match against Lia Espinal, defeating her with scores of 6-1 in two straight sets. Freshman Anastasia Nikolova then dropped her match against Ella Nielsen (3-6, 1-6), earning the Bulldogs their first point of the match. Junior Liliya Dimova was victorious in her match against Tiegan Aitken (6-4, 6-0), bringing the score to 3-1 in the Redhawks favor. Freshman Lamija Avdic then came through to seal the win for the Redhawks with her win over Kianna Oda (6-4, 6-2). To complete competition, Junior Elena Kraleva lost a competitive match against Emily Robertson (4-6, 6-3, 7-10), and Jade Quintana defeated Caroline Wernli (6-3, 4-6, 6-3), making the overall score 5-2. 

The Redhawks will continue their season with a match against Washington on Wednesday, February 21.
